ACT Team of Directors

Aloja
Airewele trained and worked in Nigeria as a medical practitioner
for several years. During this period, he became deeply concerned
about the gaps in social services and the development framework necessary
for ensuring the equitable and sustainable care of the needy. Dr Airewele
initiated health care programs for the marginalized in various areas:
care for the elderly in Minna, Northern Nigeria (an old peoples home),
personal partnered initiative with an orphanage, and numerous poverty
alleviation initiatives. Dr Airewele helped to shape the Alliance
for Community Transformation and is presently a Director of the organization.

Abimbola
Soriyan is an assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering
who has worked extensively within and outside Nigeria on projects
designed to enhance the availability and accessibility of advanced
computer technologies for the health and welfare of the poorest communities.
Mrs Soriyan is the Program Coordinator of the Obafemi Awolowo University
PACT project.

Moremi
Onijala is a lawyer and development practitioner, presently working
at the Gilchrist Center for Cultural Diversity in Maryland, USA. Mrs.
Onijala has a Masters degree in management from the University of
Maryland, in line with her desire to engage even more fully with the
issues and problems of the development of marginalized individuals
and groups. Prior to this, Moremi had many years of experience in
the legal field following her first degree at the University of Ife,
Ile-Ife, Nigeria. She was closely involved with the Alliance for Community
Transformation from its inception and has been instrumental in shaping
and directing its continued growth. She is a Director of the organization.

Peyi
Soyinka-Airewele has taught Political Science and International
Relations for several years and is presently on the faculty of Ithaca
College, Ithaca, New York. She received her doctorate from the University
of Birmingham in the United Kingdom and studied earlier at the University
of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The Executive
Director of ACT, Peyi has worked and published in the field of African
democratization and development and her activism and research reflects
her continuing passion for sustainable social transformation in marginalized
and fractured societies. She has most recently been engaged with the
struggles for sustainable peace in the Ife-Modakeke communities of
South Western Nigeria through the support of the Global Security and
Cooperation Program of the Social Science Research Council.
