National Community Development Partnerships Initiative, Nigeria
Strategic Partnerships for Development & Peace Building in Nigeria

In spite of the progress made in establishing new structures of democracy and development over the past few years in Nigeria, it is apparent that the continuing decline in social and economic well-being threatens such gains.

Many members of society feel justifiably disconnected from the rhetoric and activities of development organizations that purport to serve them and there is minimal community engagement on a sustained basis by a majority of the individuals, institutions, and corporations best positioned to bring about permanent and positive changes.

It is increasingly clear that any attempt to effectively address the problems of structural underdevelopment and violence requires the active participation and collaboration of diverse stakeholders in the society (from the market trader to corporate executives).

Strategic Project Objectives

  • Developing nationwide 'Town and gown' service-learning and development partnerships between selected universities, corporations and host communities in order to meet identifiable socio-economic development needs.

  • Establishing resource/development partnership centers.

  • Creating detailed database of community identified needs for partnership consideration by the organized private sector, academic institutions and other charitable organizations.

  • Establishing faculty-corporate mentoring frameworks for student community development project volunteers.

  • Facilitation of strong local-international project support framework.

  • Creating sustained support for communitarian action among the younger generation through the development of area specific professional and community incentives, seminars, and other programs.
